Quick Bits: Igawa, Jeter, Girardi, Bruney

You know the drill. Here are 3 quick bits on the day:

  • A Japanese team is reportedly interested in acquiring forgotten lefty-handed import Kei Igawa. Of course, for whatever reason, he doesn’t want to go back to Japan. The Yankees owe Igawa $8 million over the next 2 years.
  • The Yankees are not expected to offer Derek Jeter or Joe Girardi contract extensions over the winter. Instead, the two will have to wait until their current deals expire after the 2010 season before receiving new agreements.
  • The Yankees will likely tender Brian Bruney because he’s affordable. Everyone loves a power arm, I guess.

All the bits were provided by Joel Sherman, who has been doing a nice job this offseason.
