Mark Feinsand has the news. Says the deal is done — Michael Dunn won’t be included — pending medical reports.
Here’s a breakdown of the deal:
Yankees:
DET – Curtis Granderson
Diamondbacks:
NYY – Ian Kennedy
DET – Edwin Jackson
Tigers:
NYY – Austin Jackson
NYY – Phil Coke
ARZ – Max Scherzer
ARZ – Daniel Schlereth
According to Joel Sherman, the teams have been working on the deal since the GM Meetings, where the Tigers originally asked for Joba Chamberlain or Phil Hughes and were shot down. My quick reaction is that the Yankees made out well. If Austin Jackson can one day surpass the production provided by Curtis Granderson, then perhaps the deal isn’t viewed as a success. However, I highly doubt that Jackson will do that and, in this trade, for the Yankees, he’s the only guy they’ll really miss.
UPDATE (3:30 pm) — Dave Cameron of FanGraphs gives the Yankees an “A+” for the trade, and says it’s “almost too good to be true.”
