Quick Bits: Ruth, Girardi, Gomes, Damon

Here are a few quick items on the day:
- Today, we celebrate the 115th birthday of a prototypical Yankee, George Herman Ruth.
- Bob Klapisch discusses the added pressures Joe Girardi faces after winning a championship.
- According to Mark Sheldon, a deal between Jonny Gomes and Cincinnati is not a sure thing.
- Phil Rogers believes that the White Sox should try to sign Johnny Damon to be their DH.
Then again, Rogers also wonders if the Red Sox should go after Damon “as a fourth outfielder and insurance policy behind David Ortiz,” which simply does not make much sense for either side. The Sox just have no need with Jeremy Hermida and Mike Lowell around, and Damon would probably play for free before serving Boston as a bench guy.
