Comparing Hideki Matsui and Nick Johnson

April 13, 2010, 8:30 am by · 12 Comments

Here are a few charts via FanGraphs documenting the offensive differences between Nick Johnson and Hideki Matsui on the season. Obviously, the year is still very young, but it can’t hurt to take a quick look at the numbers and see what’s going on. If anything, it gives us a head’s up as to where the two are entering today’s home opener.

Clearly, Hideki Matsui is having a stronger, albeit unsustainable, start to the 2010 season. Nick Johnson has definitely lived up to his OBP Jesus moniker, walking nearly 25% of the time in his plate appearances, thus far, but we’re still waiting for some actual hits to fall (particularly extra base hits). Hopefully, in Yankee Stadium, Johnson will show off some home cooking.
