According to the NY Post‘s Joel Sherman (h/t to Ben of RAB), Alex Rodriguez was held out of today’s lineup “due to pain behind the right knee.” The pain is said to be minor, though, as A-Rod believed he could have been the designated hitter for the Yankees-White Sox finale. However, Joe Girardi thought it was best to err on the side of caution and give him a full day off. A-Rod is expected to be in the starting lineup tomorrow night, against the Orioles.
UPDATE (4:44 pm) – In his post-game interview, Joe Girardi made it very clear that Alex Rodriguez will play tomorrow. He said that A-Rod was a “little bit stiff,” referring to his leg(s), but he is not injured and is just receiving a day off. “We can’t play him everyday,” Girardi noted, emphatically.
