Yanks scouting Dan Haren?

Hey, forget Cliff Lee—according to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, the Yankees, along with the Twins, Nationals, Cardinals, and Tigers, had scouts in attendance at Dan Haren’s latest start in Arizona (against the Yankees, actually). Haren has had an up-and-down year for the Diamondbacks, as he has posted a 7-6 record and a 4.65 ERA. His 4.04 FIP and 3.46 xFIP are more telling, however. He’s a good pitcher, that just hasn’t been as clear in 2010.

Of course, like with Cliff Lee, the same issues apply to a Dan Haren trade. The Yankees do not necessarily need another pitcher right now. Plus, for Haren, Arizona would require a hefty package. Why waste prospects on him – he’s good, but not a guarantee – when Lee could be had for a similar package instead? I just don’t see the Yankees chasing another starting pitcher and, if they were to do that, I doubt it’s Haren they have in the crosshairs.
