A-Rod’s strange season a cause for concern?

On the season, Alex Rodriguez is hitting .272/.344/.479. He has been as streaky as anyone in the game, though there have been more lows than highs. Based on what we have seen, I wonder–is it possible A-Rod is suffering from some sort of injury? We know he has dealt with tendinitis in his hip flexor – an issue that has supposedly subsided – but perhaps the severity of the tendinitis is greater than has been publicly acknowledged. Or, worse–maybe A-Rod’s “tendinitis” is just a lexical choice made by the Yankee higher-ups to mask a more troubling situation.
All I’m saying is, given his productivity, or lack thereof, this year, I wouldn’t be surprised if, at the end of the season, we learn that A-Rod needs surgery on his hip to correct something that had been an issue for most of 2010.
