Yanks land Kerry Wood

July 31, 2010, 3:49 pm by · 14 Comments

The Yankees have reportedly completed a trade with the Cleveland Indians for oft-injured starter turned reliever, Kerry Wood. Wood, 33, currently sports a 5.21 FIP over 20 IP, with a K/9 of 8.10 and a BB/9 of 4.95. The Indians will eat a significant portion of the salary owed to Wood this season – in total, he’ll make $10M this year – in exchange for a PTBNL. The once stellar starter had just come off the DL after dealing with a blister on his index finger.

UPDATE (4:00 pm) – Via Joel Sherman, of the $3.6M Wood is owed, the Yankees are paying roughly $1.5M. This deal is big news for Joba Chamberlain and Dave Robertson, as Wood will likely take over as the team’s setup-man.
