Derek Jeter still wants a lot of money

According to Michael Schmidt of the New York Times, Derek Jeter is not seeking a 6-year, $150M pact from the Yankees. Actually, Jeter’s agent Casey Close shot that rumor down a few hours ago. Instead, via Schmidt, we learn that the 36-year old shortstop wants a 4 or 5-year deal worth $23-24M per year. Either way, not only is that still too much, it remains unrealistic. If you’re the Yankees, do you even up your $45M offer? It may be a waiting game from hereon out. Eventually, Jeter will realize that 3 years and $45M is all he can get and he’ll sign on the dotted line.
The only problem is–how long will it take for him to come around? Ideally the Yankees would like to add other pieces to their roster (e.g., Cliff Lee, etc.) and it might be difficult for them to do that until Jeter is on board.
