Sunday Morning Bits: Derek Jeter

November 28, 2010, 10:25 am by · 24 Comments

Morning everyone–here are a few quick items to kick off the day:

  • SI‘s Jon Heyman believes the Yankees could up their offer to Derek Jeter by “a couple of mil a year.” However, he adds that Jeter would still have to accept a pay cut to return.
  • Heyman also tweets that the Yankees hope to “make inroads with Jeter next week, and maybe even wrap things up by the winter meetings.” The meetings are December 6-9 in Orlando.

Although this won’t happen, let’s speak hypothetically for a moment. If Jeter found a contract elsewhere, how would the Yankees address their hole at short? Would they swing a trade, perhaps? Maybe sign a short-term fix (e.g., Edgar Renteria, Orlando Cabrera, etc.)? What do you think they should do, if that were to occur (even though it won’t).
