The Yankees led the Major Leagues with a .988 fielding percentage, becoming the first AL team to [...]

Teixeira done for the year

October 20, 2010 by · 3 Comments

After suffering a Grade 2 hamstring strain in tonight’s debacle/loss, via Bryan Hoch, we learn that the Yankees plan to remove Mark Teixeira from the ALCS roster. They will activate Eduardo Nunez, which would effectively bump Teixeira from the next round (i.e., the World Series, assuming they make it that far) and end his 2010 season. [...]

Mark Teixeira won’t get my All-Star vote

June 15, 2010 by · 4 Comments

With regards to this year’s All-Star voting, I absolutely refuse to vote for the slumping Mark Teixeira as the American League’s first baseman. Minnesota’s Justin Morneau, who, by about 200K votes, currently leads the voting at that position (at least as of yesterday), is a much more deserving candidate. For a quick comparison, Teixeira is [...]

For Teixeira, is it luck or approach?

June 10, 2010 by · 12 Comments

From Brian Costa of The Wall Street Journal: Well-hit average is a statistic kept by Inside Edge, a Minneapolis-based private scouting company. Each time a player makes contact with a ball, a scout categorizes it as “well hit,” “medium hit,” or “not well hit.” It’s a somewhat subjective stat, but it is helpful in judging [...]

Kevin Long doing what he can with Mark Teixeira

June 8, 2010 by · 5 Comments

Here’s an interesting bit from ESPN New York on the struggling Mark Teixeira: After Mark Teixeira’s five-strikeout Saturday, hitting coach Kevin Long did some disaster control. “I sat down with him for 20 minutes,” Long said. “I said, ‘You OK, bud?’ He said, ‘Yeah, I’m OK.’ I’ve done this before. I did it my rookie [...]

Offensively, Teixeira one of the worst first basemen this year

June 7, 2010 by · 1 Comment

In the above chart, I have organized first basemen in both leagues according to their wOBA. Those with higher wOBAs are closer to the bottom, while those with lower wOBAs are towards the top. Notice Mark Teixeira’s position on the chart, as his .315 wOBA (as of 06/06) is one of the worst marks in [...]

Teixeira leaves game with bruised foot

June 1, 2010 by · 2 Comments

Mark Teixeira left today’s game with a bruised left foot. The injury occurred in the third inning, when Teixeira fouled a Brian Matusz fastball off of the foot, only to ground out a pitch later. He ended up leaving in the fourth, as he was subsequently replaced by Juan Miranda. Luckily, the x-rays were negative [...]

Teixeira heating up?

May 28, 2010 by · 1 Comment

Over his last 4 games, the slumping Mark Teixeira now has 6 hits, “boosting” his triple slash line from .204/.325/.377 to… .216/.326/.378. He was 2-for-5 in the series finale against the Mets earlier this week, and, over three games against the Twins, Teixeira fashioned together a 4-for-13 effort, with one double (his only extra-base [...]
