Here are a few quick items on the afternoon:

LoHud has the pitching matchups for the Toronto series–tonight we have Nova vs Morrow.
Frankie Piliere provides us with a great scouting report on Yankees prospect, Dellin Betances.
Is Robinson Cano an MVP candidate this season? Well, of course–but is he the most deserving?

Ah, it’s nice to post again. [...]

I didn’t think it was possible…

Here are a few small samples that I will selectively choose to enjoy (just for today).
Over 7 at-bats, Robinson Cano is currently hitting .333/.364/.611 with runners in scoring position.
Even crazier, though, are his numbers with no one on base. He’s hitting .432/.488/.784. Fun stuff, right?

Law on Matsui

November 24, 2009 by iYankees · 3 Comments

From Keith Law’s (ESPN) top 50 FA list, we have the following profile on Hideki Matsui:
Matsui stayed healthy for a full season by avoiding the field, so while I’d expect his agents to market him as a corner outfielder, he should be valued as a DH. His bat has slowed noticeably — to hit a [...]

Joe Mauer, 26, has been named the American League’s Most Valuable Player after hitting a robust .365/.444/.587 in 2009. Remarkably, despite missing a month of time due to some significant back problems, Mauer hit 28 home runs and drove in 96 RBI, both of which are career highs. The Minnesotan also led the American League [...]

Pat Borzi (NY Times) reminds us of a potential Joe Mauer FA sweepstakes after 2010.
Could the Dodgers look to flip [...]

Quick Bits: MVP, Lackey, Kikuchi

November 22, 2009 by iYankees · 3 Comments

Here are three quick items on the day:

Although Joe Mauer is considered the favorite (by far), Derek Jeter and Mark Teixeira are also in contention for the AL’s MVP Award.
According to Nick Cafardo (Boston Globe), if the Red Sox sign free agent John Lackey, then they could flip Clay Buchholz and others (e.g., Jed Lowrie, [...]

Bring back Matsui

Matsui deserves to be the designated hitter in 2010. Bring this man back for at least one more year.

A-Rod or CC for the ALCS MVP?

October 26, 2009 by iYankees · 3 Comments

Alex Rodriguez hit .429/.567/.952 against the Angels, with 3 HR and 6 RBI (8 BB).
CC Sabathia won both of his starts and pitched 16 innings allowing 2 ER with 12 K (1.12 ERA).
UPDATE – A-Rod has 21 votes and CC has 3. Wow.

A-Rod an MVP?

September 24, 2009 by iYankees · Leave a Comment

From Jon Heyman (SI):
The Twins’ moving to within two games of the Tigers after Saturday probably clinched the AL MVP forJoe Mauer.Mark Teixeira has the second-best case for MVP. Oddly enough, neither man was a factor at all early. Teixeira was awful in April, while Mauer didn’t play at all that month. A-Rod didn’t enter the [...]

Bits: Recap, Mitre, A-Jax, Betances, A-Rod

September 2, 2009 by iYankees · Leave a Comment

Here are some final notes to close out the day:

The Yankees beat the Orioles 9-6, despite a shaky outing from A.J. Burnett (with Jorge Posada catching him). Cano, Posada, Swisher and Hinske all went deep, leading the Yankees to their 84th win. That Cano is having quite a season. He now has 22 HR on [...]

Jeter for MVP?

August 23, 2009 by iYankees · Leave a Comment

From Joe Posnanski (SI):
So, yes, I will admit that in the past Derek Jeter has inspired some — call it weariness, I guess. I’ve always thought he was a terrific player. And I’ve always thought he was overrated, too. That’s a hard double to pull off.
But … now we’ll get to the point of this [...]
