Montero in right field?

February 17, 2010 by iYankees · 36 Comments

In NoMaas’ interview with Brian Cashman, the GM was asked about Jesus Montero’s fate as a catcher.
He responded to the question, “Do you think [Montero's] future is behind the plate,” with the following:
We hope so. His value is highest as a catcher. His bat will find a way into the middle of the lineup, that’s [...]

Yea, he’s going to like Yankee Stadium…

December 10, 2009 by iYankees · 7 Comments

The following is a scatter plot of Curtis Granderson’s 30 HRs in 2009, via Hit Tracker.

And, from Bob Klapisch (Bergen Record):
Club officials privately believe Granderson could hit as many as 40 home runs at the new Stadium, a terrifying thought to opposing pitchers and managers already overwhelmed by the major league’s most dominant offense.
I think [...]

Nelson Cruz…

November 28, 2009 by iYankees · 6 Comments

From Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi (FOX), earlier this week:
A number of teams have called the Rangers to express interest in Nelson Cruz, but one major league source said the club is “not motivated” to move the slugging outfielder because of his productivity and reasonable salary.
“He’s been popular,” the source said of the Rangers’ [...]

The worst tweet ever

November 19, 2009 by iYankees · 5 Comments

Well, not really, but it’s still pretty awful.
Here’s what Bob Nightengale (USA Today) said on Twitter, earlier today:
The Yankees, ever so quietly, are letting teams know that RF Nick Swisher is available.
While Ben of RAB fame debunks Nightengale’s tweet about as effectively as one could, the remark itself is still somewhat upsetting given the amount of production [...]

Potential lineup fail?

November 4, 2009 by iYankees · 2 Comments

From Jenny Vrentas (Star-Ledger):
Manager Joe Girardi didn’t say whether Jerry Hairston Jr. will get his second start of the series Wednesday night in right field against Pedro Martinez. Hairston, who has had success against Martinez in his career, got the nod ahead of the struggling Nick Swisher in Game 2. Hairston, who went 1-for-3 with [...]

Swisher in RF for Game 3, CC to start Game 4

October 31, 2009 by iYankees · 1 Comment

Of the 43 readers who voted in yesterday’s poll, 25 of you (58%) wanted Nick Swisher back in right field for Game 3. Today, it looks like you’ll get your wish as Joel Sherman (NY Post) reports that Swisher is back in the lineup for the Yankees (batting 7th).
Also, from Tyler Kepner (NY Times), we [...]

Poll: Who should man RF for the Yankees in Game 3?

Girardi mum on RF

October 30, 2009 by iYankees · Leave a Comment

It appears as though nothing is guaranteed for Nick Swisher.
Here’s Sam Borden (LoHud) on the outfield situation in Game 3:
Girardi also said that Johnny Damon will start in LF, essentially ending the speculation about Hideki Matsui having to dig through boxes to find his glove. As for who starts in right, Girardi – of course [...]

Could Matsui see time in the OF?

October 28, 2009 by iYankees · 3 Comments

Here’s an interesting bit from Jon Heyman (SI):
Yankees manager Joe Girardi revealed on Mike Francesa’s radio show on WFAN in New York that he hasn’t ruled out using Hideki Matsui in the outfield for the first time this year. Matsui needs surgery on both knees, but perhaps their consideration shows how concerned they are about [...]

Random RF Thought

July 8, 2008 by iYankees · Leave a Comment

As you know, I’ve been contemplating the future of RF for the Yankees recently and have been somewhat taken aback at how few options the Yankees have for next year. It’s basically either bring Bobby Abreu back (which could be difficult depending on his performance or the market for his services), or pick up a [...]

Right Field's Future

July 7, 2008 by iYankees · Leave a Comment

What would happen if the Yankees let go of Bobby Abreu after the 2008 season? Who would the team get to play RF? Of course, that answer is dependent upon the direction the Yankees go with CF, as Brett Gardner and Melky Cabrera will continue to battle it out and state their respective cases over [...]
