Via Joel Sherman (NY Post), who spoke with Alan Nero, Chien-Ming Wang’s agent, we learn that Wang has been cleared to throw by Dr. James Andrews. Wang will begin throwing in December and is expected to be ready for MLB games in mid-April or early May (says Nero).
Obviously, these dates are subject to change, but this is big news for Wang and the Yankees. I still think the team will non-tender him, however, since Wang has been cleared to throw again—Dr. Andrews told him his shoulder was doing “remarkably well,” according to Pete Abraham (Boston Globe)—one would think that the two parties will look to continue their relationship in 2010. Joel Sherman also mentions that Wang’s high-profile association with the Yankees provides him with a lot of money in Taiwan (e.g., sponsorships, etc.), which means that he’ll probably want to continue that lucrative pairing and stay in New York even if he is non-tendered.
