Missed Bits: Chapman, Duncan, Halladay

Sorry for the lack of posts today. I’ll be posting regularly again tomorrow.
Here are some items that I might have missed earlier in the day:
- Aroldis Chapman has fired his agent Edwin Mejia. He will now be represented by the Hendricks brothers, who are known by Yankee fans for their relationship with Andy Pettitte. The Hendricks brothers are also the agents for Kendry Morales, another Cuban defector. There’s no official word on why Mejia and Chapman have parted ways, although it could just be that Mejia was a relatively unknown figure and the Hendricks brothers are insiders. They know their way around the league and have secured countless big-money deals for their clientele. Chapman may be a rookie, but with the payday he’ll ultimately receive, perhaps a veteran agent—or pair of agents, in this case—is best.
- Next up, we hear from Chad Jennings that Shelley Duncan will likely end his relationship with the Yankees tomorrow, after being outrighted to Scranton. Since this is the second time Shelley has been outrighted, assuming he clears waivers, he will refuse the assignment to Triple-A and opt for free agency. This is obviously best for the one-time bash brother, who will look to receive some legitimate Major League at-bats from another organization. He has certainly earned that right, given his impressive minor league resume.
- Finally, from George King (NY Post), we learn that Roy Halladay has “never desired to be the highest-paid pitcher in baseball,” and is simply seeking the opportunity to pitch with a winner (although, if he wants an extension, Halladay will want a lot of money since the deal will ultimately take him through his final years in baseball). King goes on to say that the Yankees will continue to monitor the Jays’ asking price for Halladay.
Back with more later.

From what I understand Mejia isn’t the biggest of agents and is really going through having this kind of client for the first time…. It may also be he wasn’t comfortable with someone who didn’t understand where is coming from and the Hedricks brothers actually have dealt with other Cuba defectors before… He may also be getting an inside track to negotiations with the Yankees since Andy is either going to retire or be a Yankee.
Halladay doesn’t “desire” to be the highest paid pitcher ever because he is 32 and will be 33 when he signs his next contract and the current highest paid pitcher (CC) signed his deal at 28.
