Quick Bits: MVP, Lackey, Kikuchi

November 22, 2009, 2:00 pm by iYankees · 3 Comments

Here are three quick items on the day:

  • Although Joe Mauer is considered the favorite (by far), Derek Jeter and Mark Teixeira are also in contention for the AL’s MVP Award.
  • According to Nick Cafardo (Boston Globe), if the Red Sox sign free agent John Lackey, then they could flip Clay Buchholz and others (e.g., Jed Lowrie, Casey Kotchman) for a bat. Adrian Gonzalez of the Padres and Miguel Cabrera of the Tigers are two options for Boston.
  • Yusei Kikuchi, the young left-handed Japanese pitcher who chose to pursue a career in Japan over a career in America, has officially inked a deal with the Seibu Lions. He won’t be eligible for free agency for at least 9 years (9 years for international FA, 7 for domestic) although he could be posted by the Lions at an earlier date.

Back with more later.

Interesting story on Endicott College (20 miles from Boston) hosting Yankee celebration. http://cnhinews.com/node/3031.

My son goes to school there – the Sox fans are so ticked off they trashed Kim Peckham’s car – she is the huge Sox fan who lost the bet with the college president. Unfortunately, she sent out the email invitation to the celebration. The Red Sucks Nation – gang who can’t shoot straight – slashed her tires and spray painted her car. This is the ultimate – we have Sox fans destroying other sox fans – (altho I feel horrible for her and the school) it just shows what idiots they are in Boston.

Ha, great item there, Tom. I’ll have this up in a “quick bits” tomorrow morning. Good luck to your son, too. Hope he’s enjoying his time in Endicott. I attended college in Amherst, MA and loved it, despite the presence of Red Sox Nation.

I can’t believe the Padres would trade Gonzalez, he is there face of the franchise and the only good player on the team at any level of talent worth noting.

If the Red Sox really want a firstbaseman couldn’t they just wait until next year and sign Carlos Pena? He plays good first and his 40 HRs from the left side seems like what they want and yet they wouldn’t have to give anyone up.

I personally can’t believe the Red Sox are going to keep Martinez as a catcher, he sucks at catcher at this point so they obviously don’t care about D and are switching to a complete offensive mind, I’m glad they are finally being stupid but what brought it on?
