No Halladay

November 26, 2009, 8:30 am by iYankees · 8 Comments

Yesterday, from the Daily News, we learned that the Red Sox were poised to make a run at Toronto starter, Roy Halladay. Today, however, all is forgotten, as Ken Davidoff (Newsday) reports that the Yankees and the Red Sox both “loathe risk” and the “offseason might be timed imperfectly enough so that both clubs back away from the Halladay table, and subsequently celebrate when the brilliant righthander departs the American League East.” Therefore, Buster Olney’s (ESPN) comment in which he called the Halladay talks “a virtual carbon copy of the Johan Santana talks” is even more interesting in terms of comparability. As Olney put it, like Santana, Halladay isn’t really a cost-efficient investment, making it difficult for the Yankees or the Red Sox to engage him as a legitimate option.

In the end, I don’t think anyone would be surprised if Halladay ended up on the Phillies or the Dodgers.

Sox ain’t giving up Buccholtz, after they coddled him & brought him along. They think he is the real deal… and I’m afraid they might be right.

I could see them giving him up Buchholz for a bat, but, I agree, I don’t think they’ll do it for Roy Halladay. As a side note, I’ve always thought that trading pitching for pitching was counterproductive. Eh, maybe it’s just me.

Phillies would be terrible, we’d just meet them in the WS next year! That would be a formidable team, if the Phillies get em. Go to the NL central Hal :)

  1. [...] Earlier today, I wrote about a Ken Davidoff (Newsday) piece, in which Davidoff downplayed yesterday’s Daily News report that claimed the Red Sox were attempting to acquire Roy Halladay before the Winter Meetings begin on December 7. Further skepticism of the Daily News’ report regarding Boston’s pressing pursuit of Halladay has now been levied by Michael Silverman and John Tomase of the Boston Herald. [...]
