Yanks not interested in Bay or Holliday

With left field an issue for the Yankees this winter, we learn from Buster Olney (via RAB) that the team’s plans to resolve the issue will not include high priced fixes in the form of Jason Bay or Matt Holliday. Apparently, this decision was made during the organizational meetings which finished on Friday. Instead, Johnny Damon sits “at the top of [the Yankees'] wish list,” but will only be pursued if his price falls. Also, according to Olney, if Damon is a no-go, then the Yankees intend on pursuing Mike Cameron, who is “ranked very highly among the Plan Bs.”

While Holliday and Bay have been ruled out by Olney — this was probably due to payroll concerns — if the price drops on either, I still think the Yankees can make a run at one of them. As stated by team president Randy Levine, though the set budget is “pretty definite… any business has to respond to circumstances.” For instance, if Matt Holliday’s price were to fall to $15M a year, the Yankees could be interested.

His name is Cashman for a reason… makin moves this offseason… I still believe Holliday’s one of the preferred options.
