Matsui to the Angels?

Mike DiGiovanni of the Los Angeles Times (props to MLBTR) reports that the Angels are considering our buddy, Hideki Matsui, as a DH option (along with Vladimir Guerrero). “He’s a person we’ve talked about, along with several players,” said GM Tony Reagins, when asked about Matsui. “We also have Vlad, who fits into the same role. There are a lot of scenarios we can attack, whether through trade or free agency.”
What do you think about Godzilla in an Angels uniform? Scary, right?

If they sign Matsui, I wouldn’t mind Vlad on a cheap one year deal. Only DHing him, plus giving him plenty of rest, should lead to one more good season for him.

He only had 300 ABs last year from injury and is on a 4 year decline in plate appearances I just don’t know if you can trust his health even as much as Matsui’s. It would be nice to see Vlad in stripes but I doubt he can come close to what he was, if you are going that route you could go after a Jim Thome or Russell Branyan if you are looking for HRs or you could trade for Adam Dunn (I wouldn’t because he is a FA next year). There are a lot better options than Vlad just because I don’t trust his health even with rest, maybe if he was willing to go 1 year 3 or 4 million maybe incentive laden.

Yea, I don’t think Vlad’s style would work well on the Yankees. I’d be afraid Robinson Cano would become even more swing-happy.

That’s true, he would have the opposite effect of Bobby to the Angels, only Matsui seems to be a good choice to DH for the Yankees.

Seeing Matsui with a glove on is the scary part.
