Jeter named New Yorker of the Year

Derek Jeter, the man with a million distinctions, received another today, as the Daily News has named Jeter its New Yorker of the Year, an honor that has recently been bestowed upon former presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, US Troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, and Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Although Jeter doesn’t actually spend the majority of his offseason in New York — it’s no secret that he lives in Tampa — no one can deny his influence on the city, as he and the Big Apple have long been in one of baseball’s most intimate relationships (sorry, Minka). If there was ever a person to embody New York, who better than the Yankees’ foremost face, the infallible Derek Jeter?

I hope MLB never takes out the trash on Jeter. He seems like a classy guy, but so did Tiger Woods. It’s tough growing up nowadays because every athlete turns out to be an ass. Hope Jeter isn’t.
