Wang could throw off a mound in 6-8 weeks

Following Chien-Ming Wang’s latest meeting with Dr. Andrews, it appears as though he could be throwing off a mound in 6-8 weeks, tweets FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal. Rosenthal also adds that, in light of the encouraging news, Wang’s representation — Alan Nero is his agent — expect “heightened interest” in the starter’s services (especially if he’s closer to 6 weeks away). The Mets and Cardinals have already been cited as two parties with an interest in Wang.

What does this mean for the Yankees? Well, nothing, really (nothing new, anyway). Their position hasn’t changed as they will continue to monitor their former pitcher’s current free agent campaign. If his price is right, they will bite and, if not, they will move on. According to Bryan Hoch’s (MLB.com) latest, the club has had “some interest” in Wang, therefore, he “wouldn’t rule out a return.” However, Hoch does state that such an outcome isn’t a “slam-dunk.”

UPDATE — Today, Wang’s agent, Alan Nero, noted that 15 teams have contacted him about the former 19-game winner. The Yankees are one of the 15 teams, while the Mets, according to Nero, have yet to call about Wang.
