Quick Bits: Offseason, Chapman, Damon

January 11, 2010, 9:00 am by · 11 Comments

Here are a few items to start the day:

  • Bob Klapisch believes that the Red Sox had a better offseason than the Yankees (it’s debatable).
  • With the Reds landing Aroldis Chapman, David Pinto believes that a draft system is unnecessary.
  • Aubrey Huff has agreed to a deal with the SF Giants and will presumably play first base for them.

If Huff plays first for SF, then Pablo Sandoval will likely stay at third, moving Mark DeRosa to left. As a result, this only shortens Johnny Damon’s list of potential suitors, for the Giants were said to be one of the few teams interested in adding the 36-year old outfielder. The Braves and perhaps the Mariners (as a DH) remain possibilities, though.
