Baldelli to the Yankees rumor false
Earlier in the morning, RAB noticed a Facebook page, supposedly the Facebook page of Rocco Baldelli, which stated that the free agent had reached an agreement with the Yankees (presumably as a right-handed platoon player). Yesterday, I posted about a report by Pete Caldera claiming that Baldelli and the Yankees had “some mutual interest” in one another, therefore, the well-timed Facebook item seemed plausible.
However, via Chad Jennings, we learn from the man himself, Brian Cashman, that the page’s claim is not true. “That would be false,” responded Cashman when asked about the alleged Baldelli signing. ”We’re trying to assess our legitimate choices in the sandbox we’re playing in,” he added. Thus, he did not rule out signing Baldelli in the future, but as of now, no agreement has been met with the oft-injured outfielder or any other available free agent.
I don’t expect the Yankees to sign any outfielders until Johnny Damon is off the market.
