Here are the Angels’ numbers against Pettitte (postseason included).
Here are the Yankees’ numbers against Saunders (postseason included).
I’m expecting a big game out of Alex Rodriguez, who is 7-for-17 against Saunders, with 2 home runs and 2 doubles. Also, Andy is searching for his 16th postseason win, which would make him the all-time leader. If he struggles or if the game remains close upon his exit, the Yankees could use A.J. Burnett as a reliever tonight. According to Andy McCullough (Star-Ledger), Burnett skipped his bullpen session on Friday in preparation for a relief appearance over the weekend. Girardi says that he could use him for one out or more—it depends on the situation—so that’s definitely something to keep in mind.
Let’s go, boys. A win tonight would prevent us all from having heart attacks tomorrow.

I have Alex hitting a HR tonight, Tex getting at least two hits and getting that monkey off his back and Andy pitches 7 beautiful innings for the Yankees win.

As long as the Yankee offense can send a few fly balls over the right field porch, I think we’ll be fine.
Like or Dislike:

Well Saunders has faced us twice this year and has had a good sinker both times, odds are he won’t have as good a one tonight so we should get a chance to hammer a few. The guy gave up more HRs during the season than AJ did (24-29).

Saunders could be excellent tonight. I have a feeling the offense is going to get it moving early, though.

Tex can’t stay on the bag everytime you gotta at least get close to the bag area with the throw Jeter… Decent enough job ranging this left to get the ball in the first place though.
Oh God! Double play by Swisher throwing behind Vlad and getting the out to Tex in time!!! What a terrible play by Vlad and a very heady play by Swish!

Yeah he really has had a drop off, I have no idea who wants to take that risk on as a DH in this economy next year…

Impressive, he got the first two strikes on every batter and he had a good straight fastball and a good curve if his cutter is on tonight he could dominate!

Posada looks like he pressed a little bit there but Saunders was decent enough to get out of the inning, he had some of his sinkers rise up back into the middle of the zone so that is something to look for later when it comes to HRs. Alex did a good job of taking the elevating sinker and pulling it for a hit and Tex looked better than he has all series, he was aggressive getting a single on a 3-1 pitch and it looks like he is a lot more relaxed than he has been.

Yea, Posada didn’t look too good up there.

Andy looks pretty good tonight the extra rest must have done him some good! you see him throwing in the rain yesterday after the game was called? He had a lot of energy to work off if he was willing to do that!
Offense needs to get on the board in this inning to stop Saunders from locking into a rhythm and smother them with sinkers.

Frank Piliere thinks Andy’s arm slot was a little out of whack in the 2nd inning, but he quickly recovered it. Good outing for him, thus far.

Yankees 10-for-58 with RISP this series.
Awful.
Like or Dislike:
0
0
Yeah but they have fallen in slumps like this with RISP all year and they maintain with the Hr long enough to get back on a hot streak but unfortunately this is the post season and you can’t survive on HRs and the Yankees have taken a long time to snap out of a collective “bright lights funk”… Thank god for Arod, Jeter and Posada because without them this series may be over the wrong way…
Like or Dislike:

WTF is Mathis smoking because I need some! This dude is a .211 guy in the regular season and is just smoking hot against the Yankees!

Yankees need to throw him cutters in. Not this weak, loopy stuff up and away (the up was a mistake, I’m sure).

You would also think the last pitch you would throw him is a high fastball…

Looks like Cano has finally woken up! That is the defensive Cano we have seen all year, he got lazy for a while in the beginning (maybe the cold?) but he looks like he could be on the turn around.

Bad pitch from Andy. Failing to do anything with RISP an inning ago is here to haunt the Yankees.

As you have to figure it always will! Tex and Alex are up in the bottom half so if Andy keeps it 0-1 then we can answer back in the bottom of the third.

After 83 pitches in 3.1 IP Saunders leaves the mound with the Angels losing 3-1 and the bases loaded with his runs and still only 1 out… Jorge is due up and will be hitting from the right side still as Darren Oliver is being called in to replace Saunders.

Nice work by Andy. Maybe Girardi should get himself thrown out. Perhaps that will spark the offense (and maybe it’ll prevent him from making a strange bullpen move later on).

I think I may have let Melky hit but 2nd and 3d with 1 out is a good play with the team hitting so badly with RISP because it gives you a sac situation… or another Damon Slam chance if they walk Jeter.

I would have let him hit. The play worked out for us, though.

Girardi is pretty consistent with that call when the team isn’t hitting as a whole, it’s nice to have an NL like call every once in a while as long as that’s as often as it is.

Great work by the Yankees there. They need to tack on at least 2 more, though. Give Andy more breathing room.

Yeah they need to add on more but it’s a good start! Let’s see how Andy does after sitting and watching the bottom of the 4th… If he can come out strong he is only at 56 pitches so he could ideally go 7 innings, maybe 8…?

You can’t expect that strike against Arod in a 3-1 count when you have 83 pitches in 3.1 IP and 42 are balls… He worked himself into that situation going 3-1 on Arod with the bags juiced.

Now when is Mariano Rivera in play? the 8th inning? The 7th inning?

I think you go to Hughes in the 8th, if he doesn’t look good, Mo should already be in the bullpen, warming up.

Hughes in the 7th, I mean.

That’s different then… I would go with Pettitte to Kendrick and if he gets on have Hughes coming in for the 7th and Mo for a 2 inning save.
Like or Dislike:

I might think about having Mo just pitch 2 innings… Why even chance Hughes messing things up if you have Mo warmed anyway, just bring in Mo and close the game. He gets it done and he has 6 days until the world series.
I don’t trust Joba in the 7th so I would ride Andy as long as I could, he will be facing the bottom of the line up after all.
